Based on nearly five decades of history, and given the strategic alliance and shared interests between the United States and Israel, I do not believe that most U.S. administrations—particularly Republican ones—would sign an agreement with Iran that would clearly undermine Israel’s security or strategic interests.
What currently exists between the United States and Iran should not be understood as a formal agreement. Rather, it is an understanding and a coordination of positions. It may also serve as a political tactic and could be altered or even abandoned within a relatively short period of time.
